The War of
1812 was a learning experience of colossal proportion for a new nation. At
worst, the war could have been the demise of the United States and a
reappropriation of power by the British. The term Antebellum defined the war in
a physical sense but the influence gained as a significant player on the world
stage proved helpful; along with the patriotism created it made the nation
stronger. These concepts are not tangible but made way for physical formations
of a stronger government, military, and economy through a national bank. The
War of 1812 provided a measuring stick of where we were as a nation and where
we needed to be. In that sense the war was a good thing for the United States.
